Financing : Bank

Bank 這個字，有一說是來自中古世紀的德文 banc，有bench, counter的意思，也就是讓人們可以在桌上，做金錢往來的生意；最早的銀行業務，可追溯到15世紀的義大利威尼斯，中國宋朝時期的錢莊及票號，也具有類似的功能。

談談跟「銀行」有關的單字

1.transaction:n.交易；業務

由於科技的進步，只要有網路設備的場所，都能夠利用上網與銀行進行交易(transaction)，但是須留意個人資料外洩(personal information leak)的問題。

Online banking is a convenient way to make bank transactions and pay bills from home.

網路銀行是一種可以在家中進行銀行交易、支付帳單的便利方式。

2.deposit:v.存放；儲蓄

為了防患未來可能會發生的緊急狀況，最好的方式之一是將錢存入銀行帳戶(deposit money into a bank account)，需要資金的時候就提領出來(withdraw money from a bank account)，還可以作收利息(earn some interest)

People usually choose banks with a higher interest rate to deposit their money.

人們通常會選擇利息較高的銀行來存款。

3.waive: v.徹出；放棄

銀行常針對各種服務，向顧客收取手續費(fee)，例如匯款、轉帳、申請掛失或變更、交易明細等；但有些項目，會依照客戶的個別狀況而撤銷(waive)費用，例如:信用卡的年費(credit card annual fees)等

It never hurts to ask the bank to waive your credit card annual fees.

向銀行要求免收信用卡年費，問一下也無防。

4.credit :v.將...記入貸方

銀行每日交易量繁多，難免會有疏失，最常見的是誤植匯款帳號，造成受款人沒收到錢，金額卻記入另一個人的帳號(credit money to another person's account)；收到錢的人也別高興，如果不誠實告知，銀行有權凍結帳戶(freeze the account)，還可能因此吃上官司。

A bank has the right to freeze the account into which it mistakenly credited money.

銀行有權凍結誤收到匯款的帳戶。

5.error:n.失誤；差錯

In general, bank errors in your favor usually end up being a problem, not a benefit.

一般而言，銀行入錯帳即使對你有利，終究會帶來問題而非好處。

6.extend:v.給予；延長 

曾有人說銀行是晴天借傘雨天收傘的機構；其實銀行也有急難救助的時候，當客戶遭受風災(hit by the storm)，銀行也會伸出援手，給予一些優惠措施，例如不收取手續費(waivers of fees)或是延遲繳款期限。

Some banks have extended temporary waivers on a variety of fees for residents hit hard by the storm last week.

有些銀行給予上週受創嚴重的風災戶一些優惠，暫時免繳許多手續費。
