In his 1933 work, Modren Man in Search of a soul,  founder of analytical psychology Carl Jung compares the influence that people can have on each other to a chemical reaction. When two individuals are brought together, both may be fundamentally altered by the experience. This implies that we may each be a catalyst for change in those we socialize with.
